In Search of the «Real» Ego: A Survey of Secular and Religious Milieus. Modernity promises everyone a life of his/her own. But this offer brings with it restraints and challenges. One prerequisite of a self-determined life is to know what makes your «self», and how this can be conceived and realized. Many secular and religious milieus are nowadays centered around the quest for the «real» ego. In opposition to this move towards spiritual egocentrism this article reminds us that it is not sufficient for man to find only himself. To have one’s own life is more than just dealing with oneself.
