The Philosophy of Religious Freedom. This contribution traces the internal frictions that emerge in the internal relationship between state, religion and freedom. For the legal principles of religious freedom are not self-explanatory, but they are always an expression of how we want to understand ourselves in relation to religion and freedom. That is why the meaning of religious freedom remains contested even today.
