In einer früheren Ausgabe von Biblische Notizen argumentierte ich, dass בּכל המּקום totalisierend („am ganzen Ort“) und nicht distributiv („an jedem Ort“) verstanden werden sollte. Jan Joosten antwortete jüngst in einem Beitrag, dass aus syntaktischen Gründen die distributive Übersetzung notwendig sei. Im ersten Teil dieses Artikels überprüfe ich seine Argumente und versuche zu zeigen, dass die Syntax keine eindeutige Entscheidung erlaubt. Im zweiten Teil argumentiere ich, dass sowohl der Kontext des Exodusbuches wie auch die wohl älteste Rezeption von Ex 20,24b in Dtn 12 für ein totalisierendes Verständnis sprechen.
In a former issue of Biblische Notizen, I argued that בּכל המּקום (Ex 20,24b) rather should be understood in a totalizing („in the entire place) than in distributive („in every place“) way. Jan Joosten answered in a recent contribution that out of syntactical reasons the distributive translation is in fact required. In the first part of this article I reassess his arguments and try to show that the syntax doesn’t allow a clear decision. In the second part, I argue that both the context in the book of Exodus and the probably oldest reception of Ex 20,24b in Deut. 12 point to a totalizing understanding.
