Heidegger's way of speaking of Being and of inquiring into its meaning is still today not easily understandable. In this article his way of speaking of beings and of Being is the object of a rational reconstruction. It is phenomenology which is the background for his new ontology. Heidegger's topic, it is argued, never was Being as the actual reality of things but the phenomenon of their presence and the source of thinking in the inner light of Dasein as being-in-the-world. It was only later that he recognized that Being belongs to metaphysics and should be restored to its language.
