Sante Avanzini (* 1580/81 in Siena, † 1649 in Rom), der bis dahin nur als Kopist der von Antonio Bosio in Auftrag gegebenen Katakombenbilder bekannt war - oft verwechselt mit Giovanni Angelo Santini (il Toccafondo) - war der Vater des Barock Architekten Bartolomeo Avanzini. Mit Hilfe verstreuter Informationen aus kirchlichen Quellen wird er als eine Persönlichkeit der ersten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts in seinem familiären und beruflichen Umfeld in Rom dargestellt.
From miniatures to the Catacombs. Sante Avanzini, Painter from Siena – Sante Avanzini (* 1580/81 in Siena, † 1649 in Rome) who was hitherto only known as copyist of images from the catacombs commissioned by Antonio Bosio – in fact often mistaken with Giovanni Angelo Santini (il Toccafondo) – was father of the baroque architect Bartolomeo Avanzini. With the help of scattered information from ecclesiastical sources he is portrayed as a personality in his family and professional surrounding in Rome in the first half of the 17th century.
