Zusammenfassung / Abstract
Am Rande der historiographischen Debatte über die Haltung des Heiligen Stuhls in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Antisemitismus, der in den 1930er Jahren vom totalitären Nationalsozialismus und Faschismus propagiert wurde, stellt sich die Frage nach der Beziehung zwischen Pius XI. und der römischen Kurie in den letzten Monaten seines Pontifikats. Sie weckt weiterhin das Interesse der Gelehrten überall. Das Bild eines meist isolierten Papstes, dessen Mitarbeiter alles andere als sensibel zu handeln scheinen - eher feindselig - und sein prophetischer Ruf standen tatsächlich im Mittelpunkt des Interesses vieler Wissenschaftler. Es bleiben zahlreiche Fragen offen, die auf zwei Themen reduziert werden können: Zum einen der Wille Achille Rattis, sich vom traditionellen katholischen Antijudaismus zu distanzieren, zum anderen der Unterschied zwischen dem alten und kranken Papst und seinem Staatssekretär Eugenio Pacelli, der ihm auf dem Papstthron folgen sollte.
Pius XI, The Roman Curia and the Jews in the last years of his Pontificate. Investigation in „Loneliness of the Pope“ and „Loneliness of the Historians“ – At the margin of the historiographic debate on the attitude of the Holy See in confrontation with Anti-Semitism that was propagated in the 30s by totalitarian Nazism and Fascism, the question about the relation between Pius XI and the Roman Curia in the last months of his pontificate continues to invoke interest of scholars everywhere. The image of a mostly isolated Pope whose collaborators seemed everything but acting sensible – lest hostile – and his prophetical call, was in fact in the center of interest of many scholars who researched in this field. There are numerous questions that remain unanswered that can be reduced to two themes: on the one hand the will of Achille Ratti to distance himself from the traditional catholic anti- Judaism, on the other hand the difference of the aged and sick pope and the secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli, who would become his successor on the Throne of Peter.
