In Ri 6-8 wird durchweg mit alten Überlieferungen gerechnet, die redaktionell zur vorliegenden Gideonerzählung ausgestaltet wurden. Anders als in Ri 6,1-24 und Ri 8,4-21, wo die alten Traditionen wie auch die Spuren ihrer Bearbeitung deutlich erkennbar sind, scheint diese Annahme im Fall von Ri 7 nicht zuzutreffen. Bei Ri 7,9-22* und Ri 7,2-8 dürfte es sich vielmehr um sukzessive Fortschreibungen ausgehend von Ri 6* und Ri 8* handeln.
Scholars commonly agree that the Gideon narrative Judg 6-8 was formed through rearrangement and reedition of various older traditions. While the traces of these traditions – and of their redactional reworking – are conspicuous in Judg 6:1-24 and 8:4-21, this is not the case for Judg 7. Instead, Judg 7:9-22* and 7:2-8 are successive redactional additions extrapolated from Judg 6* and 8*.
