Zusammenfassung / Summary
In his book Dogma im Wandel Michael Seewald takes the view that the dogmatic frame for reforms and changes within the Catholic Church is larger than generally assumed. Here we challenge this thesis and its argument. The result is: Seewald’s thesis is not compatible with the principles of official Catholic dogma, in particular with the doctrine of the infallibility of the ecclesiastical magisterium, to which he does not pay enough attention. Wherever the discussion about reforms within the Church refers to matters connected with the identity and faith in the Church, the question of infallibility is the theologically crucial point.
