Between Distance and Closeness. Priests in the Orthodox Church. Church and society have different expectations and demands on the priesthood. Various aspects of the priesthood, such as the possibility of marriage, ordination to the priesthood, and the embedding in the church hierarchy, are discussed in the article. Current challenges to the professional role of the priest are reflected against the background of the Orthodox tradition as well as social developments.
