Sketches of the priestly life – in reference to «Zumutungen aus dem Ewigen» (K. Demmer). Thirty years ago, Klaus Demmer, who taught at the papal university Gregoriana in Rome between the years 1976 and 2003, wrote quite a small book with the subtitle «thoughts on the priestly celibacy». Some of his key points are took up in this article. Changes since the release are designated and are correlated with current challenges. Demmer’s initial point is a realistic assessment of the priestly life, which involves right now to live celibately. The priest should develop a theological personality to be capable to interpret the existing challenges from a broad educational fundament. While encountering other people he has a special proximity to the suffering.
