Zusammenfassung / Abstract
“The Sources of the Vatican Archives for the History of Religious Orders: Archival fonds and Research Options” – This paper aims to give an overview of the Vatican Archive fonds related to regular orders, individual abbeys, convents and monasteries. Their history (individually and as a whole) is traced back to how and when they came to the Vatican Apostolic Archive and when, once there, they were constituted as archival fonds. Many of them are fragments of the Roman archives of the orders, seized by Napoleon and transported to France, afterwards arrived in the Vatican Archives together with the fonds of the Congregation of Bishops and Regulars on their return from Paris after the fall of Bonaparte. Others were acquired later and in completely different contexts. For each fonds, chronological details, extent, research tools and a general overview of the contents are given. Two
