Hermann-Josef Große Kracht: Towards Republican Solidarism? Solidarity and Democracy Beyond the Liberal Political Paradigm
The article raises the question of whether the ’liberal political paradigm’ has come to an end, both historically and normatively, in view of the multiple crises of the present day, and whether it should not be replaced by the concept of ‘republican solidarism’. The paper begins by outlining three ‘post-liberal’ challenges to the social ideal of classical liberalism (externally determined wage labor, unmanageable markets, and modern welfare states). It then recalls the beginnings of French solidarity sociology (Comte, Durkheim) and the political theory of French solidarisme (Gide, Bourgeois), which provide approaches to a post-liberal political paradigm that is liberal, modern, and democratic and can open up new perspectives in the face of the ‘crisis of liberal democracy’.

L’article soulève la question de savoir si, compte tenu des multiples crises actuelles, le « paradigme politique libéral » est arrivé à sa fin historique et normative et s’il ne devrait pas être remplacé par le concept d’un solidarisme républicain.
Il esquisse tout d’abord trois défi post-libéraux à l’idéal social du libéralisme classique (travail salarié dépendant, marchés imprévisibles et Etat providence moderne). Il évoque ensuite les débuts de la sociologie française de la solidarité (Comte, Durkheim) ainsi que la théorie politique du solidarisme français (Gide, Bourgeois), qui fournissent les bases d’un paradigme politique post-libéral, qui est à la fois moderne, démocratique et libéral et peut ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives face à la crise de la « démocratie libérale ».
