What does it mean to be human in a world of technology and AI?

Wir leben in einer Welt, die von scheinbar intelligenten Maschinen beherrscht wird, und wir neigen dazu, unser eigenes Menschsein durch die verzerrende Brille von Technologie und KI zu betrachten. Digitale Technologien führen dazu, dass wir uns auf körperlose, abstrakte und quantifizierbare Informationen konzentrieren und dazu neigen, unsere menschliche Verkörperung zu entwerten. Der nach Gottes Ebenbild geschaffene Mensch ist wesentlich mit Gott verbunden und von Gott mit einer einzigartigen Berufung ausgestattet. Die Menschwerdung und Auferstehung Christi bieten eine reiche Grundlage, um die menschliche Verkörperung und Einzigartigkeit in einer Welt intelligenter Maschinen zu feiern, zu respektieren und zu schützen. Die Herausforderung, vor der wir stehen, besteht darin, innovative und kreative Wege zu finden, um hochentwickelte Technologien der Künstlichen Intelligenz nicht dazu zu nutzen, uns zu erniedrigen, zu entstellen oder zu schmälern, sondern uns zu befähigen, uns als menschliche Personen zu entfalten, die einzigartig geschaffen sind, um Gottes Charakter und Wesen widerzuspiegeln.

We live in a world that is dominated by machines that appear to be intelligent and we tend to understand our own humanity through the distorting lenses of technology and AI. Digital technologies lead to a focus on disembodied, abstract and quantifiable information, and tend to devalue our human embodiment. Human beings made in God’s image are essentially related to God and given a unique vocation by God. The Incarnation and Resurrection of Christ provide a rich underpinning for celebrating, respecting and protecting human embodiment and human uniqueness in a world of intelligent machines. The challenge we face is to find innovative and creative ways of using sophisticated artificial intelligence technologies not to demean, distort or diminish us, but rather to enable us to flourish as human persons uniquely created to reflect God’s character and being.

John Wyatt : Qu’est-ce que cela dignifie d’être humain dans un monde de technologie et d’intelligence artificielle ?
Nous vivons dans un mode dominé par des machines qui semblent intelligentes, et nous avons tendance à comprendre notre propre humanité à travers le prisme déformant de la technologie et de l’IA. Les technologies numériques mènent à une focalisation sur des informations incorporelles, abstraites et quantifiables, et tendent à dévaloriser l’incarnation humaine. Les êtres humains, faits à l’image de Dieu, sont essentiellement reliés à Dieu et dotés par lui d’une vocation unique. L’incarnation et la résurrection du Christ fournissent une riche toile de fond pour célébrer, respecter et protéger l’incarnation et l’unicité humaines dans un monde de machines intelligentes. Le défi auquel nous sommes confrontés consiste à trouver des modes innovants et créatifs pour utiliser les technologies sophistiquées de l’intelligence artificielle, non pas pour nous abaisser, nous déformer ou nous diminuer mais plutôt pour permettre de nous épanouir en tant que personnes humaines créées de manière unique pour refléter le caractère et l’être de Dieu.
