Katharina Klöcker: Redemption from the Burden of Decision? - The Algorithmization of Society in Theological-Ethical Reflection
This article deals with the thesis of a possibly expected unstoppable transfer of decision-making power from humans to machines, as it can be found in currently circulating future narratives on the algorithmization of society. Against the background of reflections on how such future narratives can be hermeneutically opened up for ethical reflection, the text reflects on the question of what consequences the transfer of decision-making power to artificial intelligences would entail. The argument that algorithmic decision-making systems can contribute to the relief of overburdened humans and thus also to the elimination of suffering, and therefore represent progress towards the better, is problematized from a theological-ethical perspective.
Katharina Klöcker : Être délivré du fardeau de la décision ? L’algorithmisation de la société dans la perspective d’une réflexion théologique et éthique
L’article se penche sur la thèse d’un éventuel transfert inévitable du pouvoir de décision de l’homme à la machine tel qu’on le trouve dans les récits d’avenir qui circulent actuellement au sujet de l’algorithmisation de la société. Partant de réflexions sur la manière dont de tels récits d’avenir peuvent être utilisés de façon herméneutique pour la réflexion éthique, l’article réfléchit à la question des conséquences qu’entraînerait le transfert du pouvoir de décision à des intelligences artificielles. La thèse selon laquelle des systèmes de décision algorithmiques peuvent contribuer à soulager l’homme surmené et donc à éliminer la souffrance ce qui représenterait un progrès vers le meilleur, cette thèse est contestée d’un point de vue théologique et éthique.
