Unmasking Authoritarian Systems. Interview with Christoph Schuck about the Uses and Misuses of Web 2.0
What is it all about with the „digital gap“ between the younger and the older generations? Does Web 2.0 make the internet at last a truly „democratic medium“, that favours the participation of everybody involved in the process of political opinion making? Or do rather all the dangers of misuse grow, by international terrorism, by dubious commercial interests or by paedophilic networks? What makes the free access to the net on the one hand so valuable, particularly in the international context? How much regulation is, on the other hand, is necessary? Christoph Schuck, political scientist and communications researcher of the young generation, refl ects, on these and further questions, on both sides, the opportunities as well as the dangers of the relatively new globally available medium.

Qu‘en est-il du „fossé digital“ entre les générations jeune et ancienne? Le Web 2.0 fait-il défi nitivement de l‘internet un „moyen démocratique“ susceptible de favoriser la participation de tous au débat politique? Ou va-t-il accroître le risque d‘être utilisé également par le terrorisme international, des intérêts conmerciaux douteux et des cercles de pédophilie? Que rend, d‘une part, la liberté d‘accès à l‘Internet si précieuse, en particulier dans une perspective internationale? D‘autre part, combien de régulation est nécessaire? A partir de telles questions, Christoph Schuck, politologue et chercheur en communication, qui appartient à la jeune génération, étudie les deux aspects: les chances et les risques liés à ce moyen de communication relativement nouveau et globalement disponible.
